Hi,
I have messages already in my dock along with 23 other apps. How can I
differentiate between the messages app and the messages instance that I have
started on another device?
This aspect of handoff has always been confusing to me. I can get it to work
from my mac on to my iPhone and iPad, but not the other way around.

In the example you gave, the message you started on the I device should appear
in the doc of your Mac. The messages app must be open. It was confusing for me
because I thought I could be in the messages app and would see the message. You
don’t. When it’s working correctly it shows up in the doc or on the lock
screen depending on the device.
