Hi Ernest, you could always install Yosemite on a separate partition first to
try it out, or even on removable media (keeping in mind that things will feel
much slower on a removable drive).

I don’t have any experience with anything earlier than OS X Mavericks, but I
will say that Yosemite was an excellent upgrade for me in terms of
accessibility. Specifically, the improvements to web browsing with VO have
really made a difference. My understand is that accessibility with iWork is
much improved now from earlier versions. Unfortunately I can’t comment on the
iLife apps like Garage Band, and therefore don’t really have an answer to your
original question.

There certainly are bugs with Yosemite, and I can’t comment on how it might run
on older machines, but in general I think there’s much more to love than there
are problems. Some of the bugs are summarized on applevis.com if you wish to
make sure there’s nothing that will disrupt your workflow. There shouldn’t be
too much risk in backing up with Time Machine and then grabbing the free
upgrade to see how it runs. If you really need to, you can always go back.

Cheers,

Grant
