Personally, I use Text Edit. However, I don't need to do anything complex in my 
documents, so RTF and Text Edit's ability to do decoration, alignment, and 
fonts is plenty for me. Pages is a good alternative if you need more features, 
especially now that it's free with any ralatively new Mac or iOS device.
