Good morning Graham, Yes the program is usable, however there are some few workarounds that you need to get in place. The real issue I had in the past was selecting The target volume in the scroll area. Sometimes I needed sighted assistance. I think now with Yosemite it does a better job with the area and you can interact with the area and you're able to select the drive.
