iBooks on Yosemite is definitely an improvement over Mavericks, but I'm still using iOS for my book reading and can't really see any great loss in not having iBooks for Mac. The issue the silly way it stores your books in the iBooks container in ~/Library/Containers, which basically makes it impossible to put your books anywhere but the boot drive, or back them up. It also doesn't support PDFs (of which I have many hundreds) or custom metadata. In short: not interested.
