In iTunes advanced preferences, is Copy files to iTunes Media folder when

Note that when you open a different library it could be set differently.

Did you do this?
Copy the book to a location on your mac. Then, in iTunes add it to your
library by pressing command-o and browsing to it’s location and pressing open.

These are books I got from the App Store on my iDevices. They are in the
Books subfolder on the Windows machines. One title is the Old Farmers A;l. The
2015 edition is on the iDevices.I do not see it anywhere on the Mac in iTunes.
I found a previous edition in the Purchases window which of course I do not
want. I want to make sure that all is well after having migrated the media from
Windows to Mac.

I always buy my Audible audiobooks from Audible.com direct, which delivers the
Audible audio files that play on any player compatible with Audible's digital
handcuffs, which certainly get moved from the auto-add folder for me.

If your audiobooks came from elsewhere, then they are essentially treated as
music files by default and you have to recategorise them using the Get Info
dialog.
