typically I find that i have to interact twice in the scroll area to get at the text. Once there I can use the VO reading commands like VO + arrow keys, or VO + function + command down / up for sentence and VO + function + shift + up/down arrow for paragraph. This pertains to files I open from the finder, and not from within the mail program, but I don’t think that should matter much.
