Send me a copy of the script and I can give it a try. Is output using the output command or the say command? Or perhaps the code from the Apple version was taken, which checks if VoiceOVer is running and also makes sure that applescripts can control voiceover. in any case the first thing to do is verify that the script runs in script editor.
