I'm not having any issues with Windows Update, but that's not for discussion on this list. If you're using XP, then no wonder W U isn't working for ya. Anyway, again though, that's not for this list.

Maybe Microsoft hasn’t updated their main downloads. If that’s the case, you can update inside any of the office apps which is how I got it in the first place. Open Word, Excel or any other office app, then go to the help menu and check for updates. The update tool may have to update itself first, but after that you should see updates for all of the office apps. Now, if Windows update worked as well…

I found a download, but I'd hate to give you the link just quite yet, as I want to be sure this is the version that was mentioned. It did say preview, but it wasn't totally clear if it was specifically 16.9, so let me install it and have a go. If it is, I'll upload it to my server and get you a link, 
just to make things easier.

Microsoft just updated the office 2015 preview and it now seems to work with VoiceOver quite a bit better. I had a brief play with Word and the document is now readable, and formatting information - spelling errors, font, etc are exposed properly and can be seen. It also announces it automatically when it 
changes, so you know when you’re moving into a heading or whatever. Links
and tables also seem to work and you can select across pages, unlike with
iWork I also briefly looked at Excel and VO now recognizes the grid, so
things seem to be better there as well.
