Make sure you are running the latest OS X update. Several bugs in Mail have been fixed over time.
Quit and reopen mail. The messages may appear. If it doesn’t work, choose the affected folder from the folder list, and then choose Mailbox> Rebuild from the menu. If you’re still having trouble, remove and re-add the account. This is only a viable suggestion if your mailbox is an IMAP account. If it’s POP3, the problem may be that the messages have been deleted from the account, and you might not be able to retrieve them with your Mac.
