So, I noticed both on Windows and on the mac that if I go to automount, it
asks for the password, I put it in, then it takes literally forever and
becomes totally unresponsive. I know this is normal to an extent, but a 1GB
glash drive, taking over 45 minutes just to mount? That seems a bit
pathetic. Any idea what is causing this? I'm using the default sha 512 on
AES.
If I click on select device, then I mount it individually without doing an
auto-mount, then yeah, it takes about 2 minutes to mount, but it does do it,
at least. Any idea?

No. You format the disk without mounting it if you want no encryption.
Or if you're using a container, you delete the container.

I'm not saying to access the disk in general, I'm saying more like, if I
have an incrypted disk, and later I decide that I no longer want the drive
incrypted.

VeraCrypt with the entire partition encrypted. It's open source software
and therefore is always being vetted for security holes.
