I am still learning the Mac how do you make sure dom is selected please?

So, let's say that the item I need is about the fifth or sixth item down in a group. I have to sit here and listen to the first 4 or 5 things just to know that the 6th item down is what I need. OK, once I become more familiar with the web site, then group mode might make sense, but definitely! definitely! definitely! not if I've never seen the web site before a day in my life. I would use it all the time except that no matter how many upgrades come down the pipe, group mode is consistently very slow. It pauses my browsing with busy busy busy messages and takes longer to load large webpages. If it were resource efficient on my machine I would use it but for now it's dom mode.
