Subject: Re: web site navigation by group verses DOM: Opinions wanted

Ray,

I personally find group mode to be very very clunky. Yes, you have to do more
Vo-ing around the screen with DOM, I'll give you that, but the thing is, with
group navigation, though it might be more reliable at times, I'll even go so
far as to grant you that, even though truthfully, I'd rather not, it slows me
down tremendously, as then I have to sit here and listen to Voiceover read
sometimes a whole group cluster to determine if what I need is barried within
that group. So, let's say that the item I need is about the fifth or sixth
item down in a group. I have to sit here and listen to the first 4 or 5 things
just to know that the 6th item down is what I need. OK, once I become more
familiar with the web site, then group mode might make sense, but definitely!
definitely! definitely! not if I've never seen the web site before a day in my
life.

Chris.

No question. group is a much more intuitive way to navigate than dom,
taking full advantage of the mac system of navigation as it does.

I would use it all the time except that no matter how many upgrades
come down the pipe, group mode is consistently very slow. It pauses my
browsing with busy busy busy messages and takes longer to load large webpages.

If it were resource efficient on my machine I would use it but for now
it's dom mode.

                Hi there.

Subject line pretty much says it all. Due to a problem that
Chris was having about a week ago reporting issues with beta software he is
testing, Somebody here suggested group navigation rather then DOM navigation.
I manage a google group myself, and, I was wondering why I couldn't edit or
clear the group welcome message. When I swwitched to group mode, however, I
found that I could in fact do so. While in DOM, though, this is not possible.
However, having stayed in group navigation for a while now, I find that much
more interaction is needed and it's a little harder to tell what is where.
Takes a little more time, it seems to me, to navigate in group mode rather than
DOM. So, for those of y'all who choose to navigate in group mode, any tips I
my try to help make it faster, or, would DOM be just better in most cases?

                Thanks.

                Sincerely,
