If the document was given a file name, I would think one can find it by doing a 
spotlight search. Press command key & spacebar then type in the box the file 
name you're looking for.

Can open up TextEdit, type something in and then save that document. Now look 
to see what folder the this text will be saved in and that is where your other 
document was most likely saved in as well. TextEdit remembers the folder 
settings until you change them. So whatever the current folder setting is, 
that's where all the prior documents were sent to. Hope that makes sense Good
