Hi Annie,

It's actually simple to select all the songs in an album to either add
to a playlist or to create a new playlist if you use the Browser in
iTunes, which is toggled on and off with Command-B. However, you may
want to change from the default view option for the browser in iTunes
9 back to the way it was configured in iTunes 8 for more convenient use.

1. Start with focus in the iTunes sources list with your Music library
selected. One quick way to navigate here, regardless of where you are
in the iTunes application window, is to use Command-Option F to move
to the search text field, then VO-Right arrow to the iTunes sources
table and interact (VO-Shift-Down arrow). Quickly pressing "m u"
should take you to your Music library, or you can use your arrow keys
to go this entry at the top of your Library list.

2. Press Command-B to toggle the browser on. If it is off, you'll
hear VoiceOver say "Show column browser". If it is on, you'll hear
VoiceOver say "Hide column browser". A second Command-B will turn the
browser on again.

3. Navigate to the "View" menu on the iTunes menu bar to configure
your column browser. You'll want to make sure that "Albums" is one of
the checked entries. I also have my column browser displayed "on top"
rather than "on left", following the set up for earlier versions of
iTunes -- this leaves more room for the display of track information.
The default setting for iTunes 9 seems to be to display only "Artist"
in the browser and to have the browser displayed "on left". To change
the browser set up, use VO-M to move to the menu bar and press "V" to
go to the "View" menu. Arrow down into the menu, then press "C" to
select the "Column Browser" sub-menu. Right arrow to the sub-menu
options, then arrow down to find out which options are checked. The
first set of options are the browser categories: genres, artists,
albums, composers, and groupings. Make sure that at least "albums" is
checked. To check or uncheck an entry use VO-Space. Unfortunately,
if you want to make multiple changes you'll need to navigate back to
the "Column Browser" submenu (VO-M, press "V", arrow down, press "C",
arrow right, then use your down arrow to select the next item you want
to check or uncheck). As I mentioned, I also check the entry for "on
top", which is not necessary, but recommended if you have more than
one item checked for display in the column browser.

You're now set up to select your music by album (or composer, or
artist) using the browser.

4. To select an album of tracks using the browser, start by selecting
the Music library in your iTunes sources table, then make sure that
the browser is toggled on (Command-B). VO-Right arrow to the browser
entry for Albums. Select the album you want by typing the first few
letters of the album name or by using your arrow keys. You can create
a playlist of all tracks in your album by using the Command-Shift-N
shortcut, which creates a new playlist from your selection.
Alternatively, if you don't want to create a separate playlist for
each album, navigate to the songs table, select all tracks with
Command-A, and use the context menu (VO-Shift-M) to choose the "Add to
Playlist" option (e.g., press "A" or use your arrow keys to go
there). Then right arrow to the menu of existing playlists and select
the playlist you wish to add these tracks to.

In general, you can combine selections in any of the browser
categories you've set up (e.g. Artists, Albums, Composers, Genres --
or you personalized Groupings if you edit your tracks to create
keywords in this category) with search terms you type in the search
text field to find tracks. You can also sort on the various columns
displayed in the songs table to determine the order of tracks to be
added to playlists.

HTH

Cheers,

Esther
