The very same thing happens to me as well. I have a MacBook air 13 inch and on those rare occasions I simply wait a few minutes and the problem takes care of itself. You will notice if you keep trying to cause speech to come out that it eventually catches up with itself and clears up within a minute or two. I have no idea what causes this problem it's almost as if there some kind of processor overload happening.
