Thanks. I just tested the phone with my Sony docking station. The phone
volume was fine while I was connected and playing music, as soon as I turned
bluetooth off and sound was again coming from the phone it was at an almost
in-audible volume. When I launched back into settings, the volume came back
up. It had been set to 100%. Then it went back down to a level that was
difficult to hear for a short couple of seconds and finally went back to normal
volume without my having to do anything.

This is really annoying. I hope they put in a fix soon.

Hi Eileen, that's certainly possible. There are numerous audio-related bugs in
iOS 9, some of them quite serious. So something has been changed with respect
to the way VO processes audio, and perhaps it relates to this new audio
destination function.

Would this be the reason why when I last connected via Bluetooth to a Sony
Docking station (basically a large speaker) VO was acting weird and for a while
I was not getting sound out of either the speaker or the phone? I’ve never
played with Air Play settings and am not clear as to how they will impact
functioning of VO and sound coming from either the phone or a wireless speaker.

  Thanks.

Thanks for that. It is called Audio Destination. I will test it this evening
with bluetooth speakers. With my earpiece, once I select speaker, rather than
external destination, the rotor selection disappears. I will attempt to figure
out the parameters of this new option.

Hi all, there is now a new rotor gesture available whenever you have an
external sound source connected, allowing you to specify whether you want VO to
go to the external sound source or stay on your phone. I have not had much
success using this with Bluetooth speakers, but it does work with AirPlay.
This is comprehensively documented in iOS 9 Without the Eye, my book on iOS
9 available from the website in my signature.
