Yeah, you'd have to use grep to look inside files so it saves an extra command. UNIX find will use the slocate and whatis databases as well for faster searches. I don't know how those compare with other spotlight indexes. It seems like a way to collect data more than help me find it and I'm usually fairly organized but I should probably screw around with and see what's what.
