Hi Maurice. I had trouble with Adium at first too, but just a couple days ago, I figured it out. To read the chat window, as someone else here said, you have to VO-arrow around to find the part of the window that Voiceover describes as unknown and interact with it. Since it seems to keep track of the entire conversation, to get to the bottom, use VO-end.
