Hi,

Webkit is an open source web browser engine. It is the name of the Mac OS X
system framework version of the engine used by Safari, to make a long story
short. It is used for Dashboard, Mail and other such Mac OS X HTML-based
applications. Of course, it installs as a separate app when you download it.
The fact that it is separate from Safari but at the same time ties in with all
your current Safari settings, bookmarks and so-forth makes it easy to use. In
fact, you can't tell the difference whether you have launched Safari or not,
except for the Webkit home page. Everything will be exactly the same, though
some things will act differently on web pages. In some cases, things will even
behave more reasonably than they might in Safari, due to it actively being
developed. There is nearly an update every day to enhance the experience.

Regards,
Nic
