Katie, I have been doing more web reading about this bug and have discovered that some users are experiencing it on POP3 accounts but not on IMAP accounts. Is your email set up for POP3 protocol? Mine is, and before I rolled back to Yosemite, I didn't get an incoming mail sound either.
