What specifically did the Email say? The error message would probably provide guidance as to what’s going on. Are you using two-step verification where you have to enter both your password and a six-digit code when you sign into Gmail from a new device? If so, you need to visit your Google account settings and create an app-specific password rather than using the regular Gmail password you use to sign in on the web.
