Hmmm, doesn't seem to work here it wants to install instead of letting
me do comand q to quit it.

It's not a dmg. It's actually a .app file. Once you do the steps I
outlined, the installer will start. Command+tab over to it, and hit
command+Q to quit the installer.
Now, you'll find the installer in your applications folder. Just take
that .app file, and copy it to a DVD, or a flash drive, or whatever.
If you're trying to make a bootable installer on a USB drive or what
not, then you'll need that .app file I described above. Then, you'll
also need to get a free app from

The utility initially was for Lion, and that's why it has that domain
for the web site, but the dev definitely has updated it. It now
supports El Capitan entirely.
I've used it several times to make bootable media, and it's fantastic.

Ok, but that would only let you install it then I would like a manual
installer dmg for the full version isn't there a way to get this?

As I said, I went to the app store, searched for El Capitan, then in
the search results, I clicked on El Capitan, then install.

how did you get the full installer?

Let me clarify what I meant by "Manual update." All I did was to
search the mac app store manually from the toolbar for El Capitan,
find it in the search results, and then manually click on install
rather than letting Software Update find it for me.
Nevertheless, it's about 5 or 6 gigs, give or take.

how big is the manuall updater for the latest version of oSX?

Like I said, it could have been a few different things or
could have simply required waiting a bit to try to check for
updates. The important thing is you are up and running with 10.11.2.
As for the manual download, you can get any software from
the Apple.com website from the support page. Just do a search for
the manual updater for El Capitan.

John,
I definitely only have one Apple ID, and it was already signed
in. that said however, I did sign out and back in. I don't
recall if I rebooted or not, though with my level of tech skill,
it wouldn't surprise me if I did.

I’m assuming you had already gotten up and running with
10.11.1 before you tried the update? I probably would have
signed out of the Mac App store, rebooted the system and then
signed back into the store just to see what would occur. There
are a couple of factors, but that would depend on there own
factors as well, such as Apple ID’s being used, ETC.

Guys,
This isn't really a big deal per sé, but it does have me a
little bit curious.
I have a white polycarbon mid 2010 13 inch macbook, which has
El Capitan.
For some reason, my mac got really really sluggish, and was
practically locking up every second I'd turn my head. I ran
all the necessary disk and permission repairs etc. Nothing at
all seemed to be helping. My suspicion is that I had an app
installed which was really bogging down the system, although
even looking through Activity Monitor, it was a little hard to
determine.
For this reason and a few others, I went ahead and bit the
bullet by simply just repartitioning the drive, wiping it, and
starting clean. The weird thing is, I noticed when I went to
the mac app store to download El Capitan, so I could use Disk
Maker X to create my bootable media, I noticed that 10.11.2 was
available, although, I only had 10.11.1. Weirdly enough, though
I am not on any beta, private nor public at this given time,
and though I'm not currently even enrolled with this mac for
the beta in the first place, Software Update simply put, would
not, try as I may, let me install nor download the 10.11.2
update. It kept telling me no updates were available. I say
it's not a big deal, as I simply just went the manual route,
and manually downloaded it, but why would it be there in the
app store, yet Software update not see it? To me, that makes
entirely no sense. Yes, I have my security settings configured
in System Prefs to notify of OS updates, and never have I had
an issue like this previously.
It just has me a bit bathled.
Any ideas? As for the post news of this message, LOL, I did
manage to get 10.11.2 installed from the manual
download/install I performed. I also have found that things no
longer are sluggish at all.
Chris.
