You would need to select Time Machine from the Dock and then, Open Time Machine, while you are in Mail on the mailbox. Then, you would access the time machine controls and go back to a previous date to see how that mailbox appeared. Use the Window Chooser menu to locate the time machine controls and then interact with the slider. Once you pick the date, stop interacting and use the Window Chooser menu to select the view of that mailbox in the past.
