VO+command+f5 will route the mouse to the VoiceOver cursor, though often the mouse is already configure to follow it. You can turn on speak mouse after delay in the VoiceOver options.
I don't think this will work as well for you as the Windows Sr. do since they use an intercept into the display drivers.
