Changing the progress indicator to sounds helps, however the reason you are hearing the indicator is that the page is, in fact, stuck at whatever percentage. And since the most usual cause of these slow loading elements are ad servers and social media buttons, I suggest you grab and install AdBlock from the Safari Extensions Gallery, and configure it to block the buggers. You don’t need to load what you don’t need displayed on the page.
