Hi Kevin, Here's the story of the bookmarks bar. All browsers have your basic favourites area. Safari goes one step further and you can put your ten most used bookmarks on the bookmarks bar. So, you've got the 10 icons always on the edge of the safari window, and the nice thing about it is that command 1 through command 0 are shortcut keys that load whichever bookmark is in that position on the bar. The left most bookmark is command 1, and the right most is command 0. I lived without this browsing feature for 15 years or so before discovering it and now I am a bit annoyed that it doesn't exist in chrome.
