To verify a networked Time Machine backup, just open the Time Machine menu extra as usual (VO-MM and move left/right to select Time Machine, then press space), use VO-down to select Back Up Now, let up on the VO keys, and hold down the Option key on its own. The option changes to “Verify Backups”. Keep holding Option while you press Return/Enter. Go back to the menu extras and select Time Machine again to see that it is now doing the verification, and its status.
