Do you use chrome for everything or just mail? Safari it seems is just as busy here as the mail app is sometimes though I have found keeping mailboxes uncluttered makes it less busy. The same goes for browser history and caches. If I keep the browser history clear and clear out the browser cache regularly then I find Safari is less busy. What's worth using in Chrome? The interface looked a bit odd when I last checked it.
