Hello Paul, One configuration setting that is crucial to successfully using gMail accounts via Apple Mail is that the All Mail folder/Label be displayed in your gMail account.
Please note that this is not the default setting in gMail. Generally speaking, you can enable this settings via gMail from your preferred web browser. While logged into gMail, open the Settings area. There will be a list of tabs. In one of these tabs, you will see the options to display various folders/labels. Make certain that the All Mail Label is set to on. For good measure, you should probably make certain that the Trash label is set to on, as well. Finally, sign out of gMail. Reboot your Mac, and you should be good to go. Note that the below problem has happened on every El Capitan release and also on every Yosemite release. SO I start the Apple mail application and press command+n to create a new message. I type the message text, and then edit it to correct errors. I then send the message. If I then look at the contents of the trash mail box I see numerous copies of the above Email. It seems that someone is saving the Email after every edit action. This fills up my trash mail box and presumably also fills up gmail and consumes network traffic. It also presumably uses needless processing power to do all this and thereby slows down my machine. Do others see this problem and if so have you found a way to stop this behaviour? Best regards….
