Hi Jenine, What type of mail account does he have?
Is he connecting through IMAP or POP or MAPI (exchange) Also I believe from time back there is an option in itunes under information I think it was that gives you the options to sync contacts, calendar notes etc from your mail client to your device, It's not something I've used for a while but might be worth having a look.
