Hi Tracy. Don’t know if this will work but give it a go.
Open your word doc in preview. Then even though it might say empty,command A to select all. Then command C which means copy to clip board. Then find Text Edit which you will have in your applications folder and then paste it by pressing command V and see if you can access the document in Text edit. Just a thought.
