Hi Sandy,

Here are the general steps for accessing system dialogs.
hold down the control and option keys and press f1 twice quickly.  Note that 
depending on how your keyboard is set up you may also have to hold the fn key 
in order to make the f1 a software key.
Arrow up and down the menu until you hear system dialogs.
press the right arrow to expand system dialogs and then you can arrow through 
the alerts.
press enter on the one you want to see and focus will be set to that dialog so 
that you can navigate it with voiceover.

I'm not sure this will help you in your google example because that is an alert 
from a web page, not from the system; however, instead of choosing system 
dialogs, you could press right arrow on safari and see all your open tabs.  If 
safari has it's own alert dialog, there's a chance it could be located there.

If even that fails, then the dialog box is actually embedded in the web page 
itself.  In that case it can bee a real chore to find the first time.
