Hello Chris,

First, let me say that you are definitely not imagining things with regard to
the Barnes and Noble website and Safari--at least, not really (smile).

1.
After reading your post, I fired up Safari on my MBP mid-2014 running El
Capitan. I went to Barnes and Noble.com. I had absolutely no problem in
logging in and browsing the site. However, I did notice that there is a
perpetually updating banner/graphics in the middle of each page.

2.
I signed out of my account, closed Safari, and then re-opened Safari and went
back to the site. This time, before logging back in, the site was slow, oh so
slow and sluggish. I kept getting busy warnings and I noticed that the
VoiceOver focus did not match the actual cursor focus. The more I used the VO
commands, the more out of sync the focus and, consequently, the more sluggish
the experience. Even stopping and re-starting VoiceOver had no effect. In a
word, it was terrible.

3.
I closed Safari and re-opened, yet again, and, again, went back to the site.
This third-time, was a smooth as the first. I had no lag and easily entered my
credentials and successfully navigated the site.

So, Chris, there is definitely something going on and I would wager that it has
something to do with the HTML 5 scripts they are using in order to keep the
banner/graphics constantly updating.

4.
As an aside, I logged onto the site in IE 11 and had no problem navigating via
Jaws v17.x. Just in case you're interested.

Mark

Subject: Barnes and Noble web site driving me nuts!

Guys,

I'm not sure how many of you, if any use the Barnes and Noble web site to
purchase online books either digitally or whatever, but I'm telling you one
thing: I've not use the site in quite a while. Last time I did, it was
gorgeous, but now, to say it's a mess is an under-statement.

Every time I try opening the site with Safari, Crome, or for that mind, even
with Webkit's nightly build, Voiceover totally locks up going busy. A few
times, I tried navigating to the site, and it wouldn't even fully load. I had
to hit command+R to refresh about 5 or 6 times before it finally decided to
fully load.

When I called their support, they insisted it was an issue with my mac, but if
that's the case, then explain to me how come I'm having this issue on all 3 of
my macs, and also have the issue on my mom's mac mini as well. Obviously,
there is an issue, but B&N are refusing to admit it, which is a shame,
considering that their I O S app is so well designed.

Before anyone says, what's wrong with just using IBooks, I'll say there's
nothing at all wrong with it. I love IBooks. I just like having various
different EBook readers on hand. You'll never know when one may have a book
that another doesn't.

Anyway, is anyone else noticing this with the mac when you try going to the web
site? If nothing else, once there, try going to the account link. Then things
really will start to fall apart, I almost can guarantee it. If it does work
for you, it'll most likely be very very sluggish.

Chris.
