HI: The status of most of my messages is blank. Sometimes the Voiceover cursor gets stuck on the status column and you just have to VO/left or right arrow to get to the messages column. Occasionally I have to shift/tab to get out of the scroll area. Mine does that every once in a while as well. If it's doing this most all of the time you may have to do a permissions repair or reinstall updates and/for SL. It's simply a focus issue as far as I can tell.
