Chris and All:
I have to replace my i phone cable about every six months. I always hold it
right at the base so as not to pull the wires. The Apple Store has been good
about replacing them. The last time it happened they said to put tape around
the cable right where it goes into the small connector which plugs into the i
phone. I have done this and so far so good although it makes the cable look
really ratty. I know one thing though, I never travel without an extra
lightening cable. It has saved me more than once when in a place where such a
cable is not available.
