Hi, dictation knows specific words like "comma", "period", and "numeral". Also, using normal English grammatical conventions, numbers less than 10 are normally written as words. Therefore, if you say the number "eight" in a sentence, Dictation will put it as a word instead of the digit. If you wish it to be the digit, say the word "numeral" prior to the word "eight". Numbers larger than 10 should automatically be entered as digits.
You can say things like "new line" if you wish to enter a carriage return. There are some special words that are different depending on your locale such as "period" for North American English and "full stop" in the UK. I'm comfortable with being corrected on some of these, as I'm certainly not an expert on the dictation feature. Apple has support documents on-line for this as well. Later...
