Ould be able to set multiple accounts / numbers to be part of your iMessage 
system,
 I have 1 phone and 3 emails that I get iMessages to / from.
 They are all highlighted on my phone   but each device I have needs to be 
signed in to iCloud / itunes / iMessage and face time with the email address 
for my Apple id 

 That way they are all part of the same account.
 Oh and I believe the device needs to be present in your apple itunes account 
under your devices.

I’m going to make a note of this.  So you had to set the primary phone number 
instead of one of the email addresses?

Makes sense but I wouldn’t have guessed that.
