Thanks so much, Tim. The shift arrow worked but I will work with the other commands too and see what works better.

spot, then press VO-cmd-return, then VO navigate to the end of what you wish 
copied, then press VO-cmd-return again followed by cmd-c to Copy.  If that 
doesn't work, try cmd-a to Select All, then open a blank TextEdit document, 
press cmd-shift-t to make the document Plain Text then cmd-v to Paste it in.  
Now, find the portion of the web page you wish copied, and use regular methods.
