Hi Sharon, Once you have the application downloaded,
Go into your downloads folder and highlight the file then do a command o on the file and this will either open up the dmg file somewhat like a zip file being opened, Then find the .app file fro the application and then again hit the command o on it and it should start installing. Or if you copy and paste that .app file in to the applications folder you should be able to start installing it from there. Good luck ..
