I don’t believe the watch is available until the 13th and the phone next
Friday. Not sure if the UK is different.

On Saturday I’m going to the Apple Store and getting both products, phone and

Kawal, that’s a complicated issue about the smart watches.

Yes, blind people can use some of the Samsung watches to a certain degree.
There’s real confusion about which ones talk and which don’t. The UK version
does not for example have accessibility options but the United states version
does. Steve Nut over there on the eyes-free list can speak to this with a lot
more authority as he actually went down this path.
Also, the accessibility isn’t as good. You can’t run a lot of the
apps if any and not even all the included apps are accessible.

As for the speaker, guys, there’s all sorts of water friendly options for
speakers. Just because water gets in there doesn’t mean the end of the world.
As Tim Cook mentioned, the engineers worked hard on the specific seals and
ports to make sure they didn’t leak water. Then you manufacture your speaker
out of something other than paper that will deal with water, seal it up and
bob’s your uncle. Apple putting in a mechanism to use the speaker to eject the
water is a pretty cool idea though. I have a gun that works on a similar
principle so if you get it filled with water when you fire it won’t blow up in
your face from the trapped gases.

So here’s what I’m wondering, will voiceover work under water? What happens if
I’m diving and tap the watch? :)

I could imagine water being ejected from the speaker by itself. I know if
water got in the speaker it would be terrifying. But Apple designed it so that
the water would come out and it still worked. Would Samsung do that? Are they
just copying each other or are Samsung smart watches not able to go in the
water? Also blind people can’t use those smart watches or can they?

Just curious, but why would you laugh about that? To me, if water got inside
the speaker, that would be an oh crap! moment, I'd think. Or, is that kind of
your point?

Hi.

I had a great laugh listening to the event when Apple said that water would
come back out of the watch speaker once it was put in water.

I’m definitely getting the new watch. Does anyone know how independent it is
from the I phone?

Thanks.
