I find increasingly column view is a problem if you are using that.
Switching to list view improvesmatters.

It depends on what Mac you have. If you have a 2010 Mac and if
it's a must that you use Alex, I don't recommend updating to
Sierra. There's a major bug at present that Alex crashes Voiceover
and you need to restart your computer with the power button. But
if you have a newer Mac or you don't necessarily need to use Alex,
I'd say go ahead. It's pretty stable.
