That problem also happens with safari on snow leopard.  What we found out 
over at one s.m.m.u.g. meeting was that a monitor needs to be attached and 
turned on.  Apparently the mac software waits for video updates and when 
it doesn't get them effectively hangs.  It's like windows without a mouse 
attached to the computer in that respect.  The speed increase with an 
attached and turned on monitor is what Apple advertised with respect to
