Hi everyone, I’ve been reading a lot of articles the last few days on the 10th anniversary of iPhone, what a success its been, and how its future is doomed. lol. Everyone seams to be looking for the new killer feature, be it hardware or software that will trumpet in the savior of the iPhone.
So, I was one of the lucky ones who preordered the AirPods early, and got them the day of release, December 19th. And using them the last 2 plus weeks got me thinking. Imagine if Siri got better. I mean, Alexa amazon echo better. Google home better. Is that out of the realm of possibility? I don’t think so. It will be difficult because of Apples stance on privacy, and refusing to collect and harvest our data to the extent of Google and Amazon, but not impossible. I have to Echo. The Amazon Echo, and the amazon tap. I love them both. I think this is the future of computer interaction. Its the next thing that will take us away from multi touch displays. Technology is almost to the point where we can have basic conversation with our tech. Let me give an example of what I’m getting at. You have in your airPods, and you would like to check twitter. You double tap an AirPod or say, “Siri” read my home timeline. It proceeds to do just that. You get to a tweet you like. You say Stop. Then Like this tweet. Siri then does so. Then, continue reading. Get to a tweet you want to reply to. You say stop, reply to tweet. It says ready for your reply. You dictate, it reads back your text and asks if you want to send edit or cancel. All this happening while your on your elliptical, or treadmill. All this without being distracted by your phone. Let me give a bit of background to those who will say, sighted people don’t want this though. They are all about 8K displays, and graphics. Well, yes and no. I’m a big car guy. 10 years ago, you bought a brand new car, luxury or top trim regular automobile. for example, a 3 series BMW, or a top trim Honda Accord. You get a nav unit. You know what you had? Buttons and a generic display. Voice command? not a chance. You were hunting and pecking, typing in your destination address, and hoping you didn’t make any mistakes. fast forward 5 years, and those are replaced by touch screen nav units, or much more forgivable UI’s. In the case of BMW, you can write in the air with their new gesture based systems. But what do they all have? Voice input. Press a button and say, take me to 123 5th avenue, and you are on your way. Voice will be king in the car. This will translate to out of the car too I think. I know, I know. What if you want to view movies, pictures, IG, FB, Snapchat? What if iPhones ended up being glorified iPod touches or iPads? Just extremely hi res displays. Flexible, folding displays like what Samsung and LG has already developed. So for example. your at lunch with friends, and you want to show them video of your new born. you reach into your shirt pocket, this 3inch square unfolds into a 9 inch display. You have in your AirPods and just say, show recent baby vids. It starts to play. You just say, next video, or, zoom in. or, freeze, Isolate center image. Darkening and blurring the background, so only your baby is in focus. *Shrug*. I think This is where tech will be heading in the next 10 years. I know most have not been labeling as such but, AirPods are wearables. Just like the Apple watch. Only think thats really missing from either is a powerful enough virtual assistant. I was wondering what you guys thought? Thanks. -- The following information is important for all members of the Mac Visionaries list.
