True, you can download the Audible app from the app store and listen to Audible.com books using it. I use it all the time: and in fact, it’s the main reason I chose to go with an iPhone 5 instead of a second gen Stream. Going with a second gen stream would have meant authorizing the Stream to play audible content: which is totally impossible using a Mac (unless you install windows on it which I will never do). Seemed to me that since the BARD mobile app was about to come out, better to get the iPhone 5 and go that direction. Glad I did.
