Simon,

You should be good to go then. Whatever's in iTunes will play on the Apple TV.
Go under Computers, to your computer, and AudioBooks should be in there. If
the stars are aligned properly, and if you have your finger up your left
nostril, then it should remember where you were between listening on an iPad or
iPhone and the Apple TV, and even your Mac for that matter. It's not always
perfect though.

Hi Simon,

In order for the Audiobook library to be visible to your Apple TV through Home
Sharing, your AudioBook Library must be within iTunes itself. The Home Sharing
protocol is meant to share iTunes libraries, not simply a sharing protocol.
So, if your iTunes library points to those AudioBooks on the NTFS drive
already, then you should be fine. If you listen to those AudioBooks with a
different media player than iTunes, you may not be successful. The writing
back and forth is actually done within the iTunes Library files as it retains
markers to remember where you've stopped in case you plan to listen from a
different device etc.

HTH.

Hi Tim,

So you can have your audio book library showing in home sharing on the apple tv
but not home sharing on say the iPad or iPhone?

Just checking this as I’m thinking about doing this but wasn’t sure if my tv
would give me the books via home sharing.

Also, will the home sharing setup on the apple tv or iPhone etc deal with the
audio books being housed on an NTFS partition?

Should be any writing to the drive / partition but just wished to check

Hi,

I don't believe that AudioBooks are sharable via Home Sharing with the
exception of on an Apple TV. There's info at

https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT202190
<https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT202190>

that can help with the iPad as it appears that the process is slightly
different.

I tested things today on my iPhone and connecting to the Library on my MBP and
it worked fine. It took a little while to load the iTunes Library from the
MBP, but after it was loaded, things were pretty snappy.

Its strange. I do not see that dialog on the iPad. I rebooted the phone too.

I did find out that iBooks is used for audiobooks but I do not see the titles
there. Maybe in this case Home Sharing really is slow?

Well, that narrows down things a little. I've seen Home Sharing be rather slow
sometimes between iDevice and Mac, but not specifically what you're mentioning.
I'll see if I can play a little tomorrow and figure something out for you.

Hi,

Do you have your iDevices set to not show Apple Music features. I believe that
you'll find this setting in Settings, Music.

I am not sure if this is a Home Sharing problem. Because there is not enough
space on either iPhone or iPad, I want to use this feature to listen to some
content stored on the Mac.

In the Music app on the iPhone, when the library tab is selected, I get a
dialog asking, "Looking for music?" I do not use Apple Music and I do not have
any of my music on the iPhone. I cannot get rid of this dialog. Earlier in the
day, I did not have this issue.

During that session, I saw my Home Videos in the Music app. Why there and not
in the TV app? I also was looking for my audiobooks. Is there a genre table?
Could not find that. Thanks for any help.
