I use FineReaderPro a lot, and I feel it's worth the money. You can scan and recognise documents , it has automatic page orientation feature, scans multiple pages, and you can convert to various formats: pdf, dox, rtf, txt, excel, html. It also recognises documents in up to 3 different languages in one document, which is helpful for multilingual documents.
