Ray,
I believe that with IOS applications you are dependent on what that application
wants to make available. Generally, if the share activities area allows you to
share to DropBox or iTunes then you should be in pretty good shape to get the
file on your Macintosh. Other than that, I believe that a Jail Break solution
is your only other alternative, an even then you would have to do some reverse
engineering for each application.
Is there perhaps a share via e-mail option for what you want to share? I always
claimed that eMail was not a file transfer protocol, but in these days of
automatically using iCloud for mail file attachments, consistent use of MIME
encapsulation, and encryption mail services it often seems to be more secure
and reliable than using ftp, sftp rcp or other alternatives especially if you
don't have an account on the both systems.
In general the Apple environment has been moving away from user controlled
cross application support to instead use restricted use extensions that only
allow controlled access from one application or service to another. This
improves security of the systems but makes it difficult when the user does not
fit into the standard mold. I just found on my work computer I was unable to
rename a text file with an html extension except by going into the terminal.
If this type of thing interests you, there was a great article last month I can
written by a former Apple employee about how Extension services are not as
flexible or powerful as the Scripting functionality in MacOS and how if Apple
reduces support for this, then power users will be forced to other platforms.
Best wishes,
Jonathan Cohn
