I was able to figure what I needed to do to have VoiceOver directed through my
USB headphones while all other sounds are routed to the speakers connected via
the audio jack. For those that might be interested (and to help set this in my
memory by enumerating the following steps) here’s how it’s done:

- In Preferences/Sounds set output to the desired device - in my case it’s the
headphone port (not to be confused with the USB headphones) but rather the
headphone (or audio) 3.5 mm jack. This will direct all sounds to whatever is
connected to that jack (in my case, LogicTech speakers).

- To have VoiceOver directed through the USB headphones bring up the VoiceOver
Utilities (VO+F8). Activate the “Sounds” category in this utility, then tab to
the Pop-Up that let’s you identify the output device. and select the desired
device.

A slight caveat here, since my LogicTech headphones also provide a microphone I
have the Sounds/Input (Preferences) set to the LogicTech headphones. I mention
this because it may present some confusion that the Sounds/Output in
Preferences is set to the audio jack while setting Sounds/Input to the
LogicTech headphones. This while needing to make a special specification to
route VoiceOver through the LogicTech headphones via the VoiceOver Utilities
Sounds category.

Hope this isn’t too awful confusing!
