OK, I looked at the Macintosh Kindle app with UI Browser. The Accessibility
API's just see one large window in both the Register Kindle window and the
Kindle Window. This large window in both cases has exactly 1 interface element
that is labeled for accessibility as "unknown". So without completely
rewriting the User Interface portions of the Macintosh Kindle app it will not
be accessible. I have seen applications that VoiceOver just saw blanks, that I
could still navigate to some extent by looking for the third text field…. but
that is not possible as far as I can tell with the Kindle app.
So even though the Kindle App on Windows is now accessible with NVDA and JAWS,
and the Kindle App on IOS has been accessible for some time, it appears that
the Kindle app on the Macintosh is not accessible.
So, I suspect the best thing to do is contact Amazon via the link provided for
support on the App Store. I would paste that link in here, but it looked like
there might be a customer id associated with the link.
Best wishes,
Jonathan Cohn
