Hi, Hitting the return key will only work if focus is on a song title in the music table. As Andrew mentioned, you can press cmd-left, or just the left arrow key when in the iTunes app, or just press F7 if you'd like it to work from within whatever app you happen to be in. F7 to skip back, F8 to play/pause, and F9 to skip forward.
